Biblical Positions

Doctrinal Positions

We believe the following to be essential Doctrines of the Christian Faith; the inspiration of the Scriptures; the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ; the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ; the Vicarious Death of Jesus Christ; the Bodily resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ; and the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Versions Of The Scriptures

Due to the highly interpretive and often prejudicial nature of some existing versions, translations, and paraphrases of the Scriptures, care must be exercised when making selections for public ministries. Because of this, the King James Version will be utilized in the preaching or teaching ministries at Tri-State Bible Camp & Conference Center. This will enable us to provide unity of purpose and program to the ministry at TSBC.

Separation

It is our conviction that servants of Christ should not knowingly cooperate with organizations or individuals that do not hold to the fundamentals of the faith as set forth in the Word of God. Neither should they refuse to separate themselves from organizations that harbor liberalism or support the World or National Council of Churches, or the National Association of Evangelicals. Furthermore, it is our conviction that servants of Christ should not knowingly cooperate with organizations or individuals that are charismatic or Pentecostal.

Music

The following guidelines should be followed by all ministering in music at Tri-State. Song texts must be in accord with sound Biblical doctrine and should effectively communicate definite Biblical truths to believers, or give an effective invitation to the unsaved. Songs which emphasize humanistic philosophy, social gospel, or any other unbiblical teachings are definitely unacceptable. Songs which are closely associated with the charismatic movement are not permitted. Music should appeal to the spirit rather than to the flesh, and should be uplifting more than entertaining. Since music itself, apart from any words, communicates an emotional message and has meaning itself, it should be of such character as to lift our hearts and mind toward the things of God. Melody should be the principle element (Ephesians 5:19), and the beat should be subordinate. Acceptable music should not be patterned after that of the world (Romans 12:1-2). Therefore, any music which is an obvious imitation of worldly music is to be considered a distraction from the message of the words, and is unacceptable, no matter how fine the words may be. Musicians are to avoid vocal or instrumental techniques particularly associated with this type of music.

The Charismatic Movement

We believe the sign gifts of the Spirit, in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, to be miraculous gifts, sovereignly bestowed by the Holy Spirit for a limited time and for specific circumstances. These gifts are all transitory in nature and limited in operation. By transitory in nature we mean, that by the time the New Testament Canon closed, these gifts had gradually come to an end, with none of them being operative past the end of the first century. By limited in operation we mean that these were not gifts which were continually exercised by an individual over an extended period of time; and that the purpose of the usage determined the exercise of the gift.

The purpose for which the Holy Spirit gave these gifts were: (1) as signs to unbelievers until the completion of the cannon: (2) for authentication of the gospel; (3) as the seal of divine approval upon the Church; (4) of revelatory significance to the believers. All of these purposes were and are served with completed Word of God.

Therefore we are convinced that these gifts which were operative in the early Church were discontinued by the time of the close of the New Testament Canon and are not to be sought nor to be exercised in our day. The completion of the New Testament assured accessibility through the Word of God to knowledge and power adequate for the life and service of all believers. Therefore, to seek the transitory gifts is a denial of the efficacy of the Word of God (1 Thessalonians 2:13).

No minister of the F.F.B.C. shall allow himself to become involved with any group, movement, or organization which fosters or tolerates the Charismatic Movement in any of its various forms. By this action, we can assure the continued propagation of the gospel through our Fellowship, as we rightly divide the Word of Truth.
